Dr. Ildaura Rohde was born on September 6 in 1920 in the district of Panama, and she came to the united states in 1945. She began her nursing career in San Antonio, Texas. At that time, Texas was a largely Hispanic-populated city, and that is when she realized that there were not many Hispanic nurses in the city. Later in her life, she made it her mission to uplift the life and working conditions of Hispanic nurses, and her whole life, she worked for the same. Sadly, we lost this fierce soul on September 5, 2010.
Ildaura Murillo-Rohde Education And Career
To turn her vision into reality, she worked hard and got a Bachelor Of Arts degree in psychiatric mental health nursing from the prestigious New York Columbia University. After completing her bachelor’s, she continued with her education and obtained a master’s degree and doctorate at New York University.
Iidaura Murillo Rohde is one of the few nurses who has received a fellowship from the American Academy of Nursing. This is considered one of the highest honors in the field of nursing.
She started working as a faculty and later on became a professor. Dr. Ildaura Murillo Rohde was also a dean at SUNY’s school of nursing in Brooklyn. Not only this but she was also appointed by UNICEF as their chief representative and worked her whole life trying to make a difference.
She joined Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital to help patients dealing with Puerto Rican Syndrome. This was the syndrome that arose because of the ill effects of the Korean war. It is because of Ildaura Murillo Rohde that Hispanic people receive proper treatment today, she truly helped the Hispanic community to live their lives freely.
