The death toll from an earthquake that jolted Indonesia’s primary island of Java has ascended to 310, as declared by the country’s national disaster mitigation organisation. The 5.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the West Java Province of Indonesia left its citizens in shock. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake hit the Cianjur region at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), leading to crumples while classes were being held in education institutes. The death count from the 5.6 magnitudes has unfortunately risen to 310 and 24 individuals remain missing.
According to a report, by the country’s (BNPB) National Agency for Disaster Management, Major General Suharyanto stated that the death count has risen to 271, in which many of them were school children and more than 150 were missings. Also, it was recorded that over 22,000 houses were destroyed and more than 58,000 individuals have been deranged. The National Agency has constructed 14 refugee shelters with premium facilities for displaced individuals. The victims are likely to shift from their temporary tents and move to the main sanctuaries.
According to Major General Suharyanto, National Agency for Disaster Management set up over 6,00 rescuers for search-and-rescue processes. Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who inspected precincts impacted by the earthquake, stated their government would facilitate compensation of approximately USD 3,200 each for individuals with severely damaged abodes.

According to Major General Suharyanto a total of 144 religious buildings, 16 office buildings, 363 school buildings, and three health institutes were damaged by the hard-hitting earthquake. The Government is evacuating the survivors and facilitating aid to them to ensure their safety.
