Any professional writer or student needs to create well-articulated sentences to make a mark in their respective fields. Even if the writer has a good grip of vocabulary, without perfect sentences, they will just sound like a few words jumbled up. Hence, sentence construction is vital to writing immaculate essays for your technical or academic paper.

Any academic or technical writer needs to follow a few standard patterns to create lucid writing. Knowing these patterns will not only make you a better writer, but you will be able to approach your papers with a lot more confidence. If you are a student, you do not need to waste money by hiring an assignment experts. No academic writers will ever look for essay help if they have a clear understanding of these patterns. Read along to learn about the eight patterns that can make your paper writing experience much simpler.

Simple Sentence

A simple sentence consists of just one subject-verb pair. The sentence starts with a subject, and a verb follows it. The subject can be preceded by an adjective, while any adverb can follow the verb. Usually, a simple sentence has an object in it.

For example, The laptop gives access to your personal files.

Simple Sentence with a Simple Introductory Description

This sentence also resembles a simple sentence as the crux of the sentence remains exactly like one. However, there should be a short descriptive phrase before the main sentence. Alternatively, you can also start with a simple descriptive clause with one verb and subject.

If you need to explain any specific aspect of the introduction, you can use two sentences to make it sound simpler and avoid any chances of confusion.

For example: Since it’s designed like that, the laptop can give access to your personal files.

It can also be written like: The laptop is working perfectly. It can give access to your personal files.

Compound Simple Sentences

If you combine the aspects of both simple and simple sentences with an introductory description together, you get a compound simple sentence.

An example of a compound simple sentence:

According to the manual, the laptop gives access to personal files, and you can store your backup files on the external hard drive.

Simple Sentences with Compound Predicates

Any sentence has two main parts – One subject and a predicate. This kind of sentence always has two main verbs instead of one.

You can understand this with the help of an example:

The laptop gives access to all the personal files and contains shortcuts for all common files, folders and programs.

Simple Sentences with Compound Objects

In this pattern, there may not be an object in every sentence. However, if the sentence has one, it can have two.

Let us make it simple with this example:

The laptop gives access to all your personal files and other vital information about your laptop.

Compound Simple Sentence with a Simple Introductory Description

This pattern is a simple combination of compound simple sentences and simple sentences with a simple introductory description.

A sentence following this pattern will look like this,

According to the manual, the laptop gives access to your files, while the external SDD stores the backup files.

Simple Sentences with Descriptive Phrase for the Verb or Subject

In this pattern, the main subject is followed by a descriptive phrase. The subject can precede the verb as well. However, if you keep a descriptive phrase after the subject, you must keep it as short as possible. Otherwise, it may differentiate the subject from the main verb. A descriptive phrase doesn’t need to have a verb or a subject.

Example 1: The laptop, your all-time companion, gives access to your personal files.

Example 2: The laptop gives access to all your personal files in a short time.

Sentence with ending descriptive phrase or clause

A descriptive clause or phrase can follow any sentence pattern. Let us see some examples to understand how it can be formed.

Example 1: The laptop gives access to your personal files, which is convenient if you need to find a file quickly.

Example 2: The laptop gives access to your personal files, and the external SDD stores backup files, thus offering two-way access to the whole database.

Example 3: As per the design, the laptop gives access to your personal files, with all the backup files on the external SDD.

Summing Up:

These eight are some of the most used sentence patterns that writers use to write simple, easy to understand sentences for academic and technical papers. If you follow these patterns, you can approach almost every situation more confidently. However, you can always tweak these patterns to create other patterns if you seem fit. For example, you can add a phrase, clause, or some descriptive words in multiple locations. The only thing that you need to see is whether your sentence looks and sounds simple. Avoid making your sentences complex, as it increases the chance of confusion among your readers. Thus, by using these patterns, you can communicate more fluently with your readers.
