Top Apple Music Features you Weren’t Using

With more than 100 million subscribers and over 90 million songs, Apple Music is one of the world’s sought-after and most popular music streaming services. The app also features video concerts, curated playlists and 24-hour live radio. Even if you use this app every day, you are likely missing out on using some of the secret features. Let’s dive in to learn about the nifty features you weren’t using.

iCloud Music Library

As an Apple Music subscriber, one of the first things you must do is take advantage of the iCloud Music Library. Thanks to this feature, you can store your entire Apple Music library on iCloud, including the local music files. You can access the library using your Apple ID on your Mac, iPad or iPhone. You can also switch between your devices when you want.

Enable iCloud Music Library on your iPhone by going to Settings > Music > Sync Library and switching it on. Launch the stock Music application on your Mac and click Music > Preferences > check the box next to Sync Library.

Windows users relying on iTunes to stream Apple Music can navigate to Edit > Preferences and check the box next to iCloud Music Library.

Apple Music Replay

Apple Replay is a great feature of Apple Music that lets users look at all the tracks they have played during the year. It is a fantastic way to remember all the amazing music you have listened to and shared with your friends and family.

To see your Apple Music Replay, launch the app > go to the Listen Now tab > scroll to find the Apple Replay at the bottom.

Offline listening

When you’re traveling, the offline listening feature can be a lifesaver. After all, you cannot stream Apple Music when on an airplane. Thanks to offline listening, you can download your albums, songs and playlists from the app on your device. You can listen to them at the highest quality when not connected to the Wi-Fi.

You can download an album or song by adding it to your library. When you find a song you like, you can tap on the three-dot icon and select Add to Library. Then, go to the Library tab, long-press the album or song you wish to listen to, and tap Download.

However, your iPhone’s storage space may go for a toss if you download many songs and albums. Therefore, you should frequently remove the downloaded content for free storage space to download more new albums and songs. To delete the downloaded content, go to the Download folder in the Library and loss-press on any album or song. Then, select Remove from the menu and choose to Remove Downloads.

Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio

Apple rolled out Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos in 2021. You will need Beats Headphones with Apple’s W1 or H1 chips or AirPods to use Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. You need wired headphones for listening to Lossless Audio on Apple Music because they guarantee an ideal music-listening experience. Bluetooth devices fail to transmit lossless signals.

You can also try Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos on the in-built speakers of your iPhone. It might not be significant because Lossless Audio streaming consumes six times the data as standard streaming. Therefore, if you wish to disable or enable these features, you can go to Settings > Music > find the Dolby Atmos and Audio Quality options under the Audio section.

Know the Song that’s Next in the Queue

If you are listening to a playlist or album on the app and want to know what will come next, you can tap on the list icon in the bottom right corner. You will see a list of songs or a song under Playing Next. You can even tap on the Shuffle button to spice things up and let the app pick a random song to be played from the queue.

Begin a SharePlay Session

One of the standout features of iOS 15 is SharePlay. If you use FaceTime to stay connected with your friends or family, you can begin a SharePlay session and enjoy listening to music together. The feature is available on iOS 15.1, and if you use iOS 15.4 or later, you can invite your family or friends to listen to music directly from Apple Music.

You can find the album or song in the app and tap on the triple-dot icon. You can also tap on the same icon and choose SharePlay. Then, choose the contacts you wish to invite and tap on FaceTime. It will start a SharePlay-enabled video call.

If you don’t want to go through all this hassle, you can tap on the SharePlay button while in the middle of a FaceTime call.

Conclusion

How many of these features are you already using? These are some of the standout Apple Music features that will help you get so much more out of your music-listening experience.
